Vanderbilt Hall at New York City’s historic Grand Central Terminal was the venue of the first of Ahae’s exhibitions entitled Through My Window. For purposes of display, the magnificent hall was divided into four sections, each dedicated to one of the four seasons depicted in Ahae’s photographic works.
Over 200,000 people walked through the terminal every day, many of them along the open corridor that separates the two sides of the Vanderbilt Hall. Most of these people were in a hurry to get somewhere, but Through My Window stopped many of them in their tracks. These were the people who accepted what Ahae described as his “gift” to the people of New York. They permitted time to stand still for them, as they wandered through the calm, peaceful atmosphere and allowed their eyes to be opened to the natural world that seems so incongruous with the concrete jungle of the big city.
