Daily Photo Journal

Each day take a photo in / of nature that highlights the thoughts, events or feelings you want to remember. Challenge yourself to go beyond taking a merely nice looking photo, but one that tells a story or asks questions. Remember, the point of this exercise is to both encourage yourself to connect with nature on a daily basis, and to look back and see the presence of nature in your life over time.

I wouldn't have noticed these if not for the striking rose-gold morning light. I identified them as horses, bobcats and coyotes. I felt sorry to disrupt this wild collection with my own human tracks.

On my way to the office on a day filled with fatigue…
The power of nature to uplift our mood is undeniable. No man-made object, no matter how beautiful or expensive, can have an impact as powerful and as fast.

Weeds
Weeds are defined as a valueless plant growing wild to the exclusion or injury of the desired plant especially one that grows profusely where it is not wanted. As with unhealthy thoughts or bad habits, weeds can get out of control very quickly. To keep weeds from invading into our daily lives we need to pay attention to them every day and put some work into ensuring they do not affect us or those around us in a negative manner. Before we know it the weeds can latch on to a neighboring tree or beautiful shrub and start climbing undesirably onto it as well. For ourselves and the sake of others we need to look at, think about and deal with all of the weeds that impact our lives.

Who knew the helicopters in my childhood memory were maple tree seeds...

Even in death, nature looks alive.  I half expect it to squirm, wriggle, and crawl away any moment.   It makes me marvel at the complexity of all living things.

These days when lockdowns and staying indoors has become the norm, there is nothing that quite uplifts our mind, body and soul the way nature does.
